Lower School Summer Updates

Dear Lower School Parents,
 
I hope this letter finds you well and that you are enjoying the summer. I am so looking forward to welcoming your children back to school in just a few short weeks.
 
There is much important information to share. 

I. Important Forms:
 
          At the beginning of the summer, the following lists and forms were sent out:

3.   School Supply Fee- if you have not done so already, please send in your payment of $35 which covers supplies that the school purchases. Payments can be made online via paypal or personal checks to Jill Gerrick in the school office.
4.   Click here for this year’s Dismissal Forms- due on August 8th
5.   Click here for this year’s Emergency Forms- due on August 8th
 
II. Reminder: Lice Checks
This year, lice checks will take place during the following times: 
             The first day of school
                                      OR 
If your child was in camp or travelled this summer and you would like lice checks done before school, they will take place in Hannah Lowenstein’s office on Thursday, August 21st from 9:00 AM- 3:00 PM
 
III. New Staff Members
I am thrilled to announce some recent hires to our Lower School Community:
  1. Mrs. Francois Jacobs-  We are very excited to introduce Mrs. Jacobs who will be teaching Project Based Activities through Art, Technology and other learning modalities. Mrs. Jacobs will teach Grades 1 and 2 once a week and Grades 3, 4, and 5 twice a week. Mrs. Jacobs is a creative and enthusiastic educator and we are looking forward to her enhancing our Lower School curriculum.
     
    2.    Ms. Danielle Mostachetti- We are thrilled to introduce Ms. Mostachetti as the new physical education teacher for the Lower School. Ms. Mostachetti brings many years of experience teaching physical education classes and inspiring young students to enjoy physical activity. I know that she will bring much excitement to her classes.

    3.    Ms. Martha Fusco- We are excited to introduce Ms. Martha Fusco ( soon to be Mrs. Martha Butcher, as she is getting married in August), as the new Learning Specialist. Mrs. Fusco brings her classroom teaching experience as well as her passion with working with students individually and in small groups. Ms. Fusco has demonstrated the ability and dedication to help students achieve academic success.
IV. Lower School FAQ's
  • What is the dress code?

Boys:
 
Kippot and tzitzit should be worn at all times. Baseball caps are not permitted.
 
Shirts or t- shirts should have sleeved ( no tank tops etc.), and should have appropriate designs, pictures or logos. In First Grade shorts and sweat pants are permitted. From Second Grade, boys should wear slacks or jeans.
 
Girls:
 
Skirts should be to the knees
 
Shirts or t- shirts should have an appropriate neckline and sleeves ( no cap sleeved, tank tops etc.). and they should be long enough to cover the body while running around. They may have appropriate designs, pictures or logos.

  • Can my child bring electronics to school?

While we recognize that many children like to play video games during the bus ride, lower school students are not permitted to play electronic games ( including cell phones, iPods etc.) during the school day.

  • What can I send for lunch?

This year, all lunches that are sent to school should be Dairy or Pareve. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions regarding the dairy and pareve lunches. Please include drinks for lunch as well as snacks for the morning and afternoon recess. Please do not send in any foods that needs hot water (i.e. instant soups etc.). 

  • I am concerned about my child, who should I call?

PLEASE call us! Your child's teacher wants to hear your concerns and questions. Also, please feel comfortable to call Malkie Ginsburg any time.
 
V.  First Grade Parents
 
Reminder: Our Welcome to 1st grade Orientation and supply drop off will take place on Friday, August 22nd from 9:00-9:45 at school. Stay tuned for more information regarding the orientation.
