Sixth Grade Trip to Detroit!
By Annie Jaffe (6th grade student)
On September 22 and 23, the 6th grade
went on an amazing overnight trip to Detroit. We had to be at school at 6:15am
to daven with the Sinai minyan. At about 7:45 we ate breakfast and put our stuff
on the bus. We left school on a coach bus at about 8:45am. We rode on the bus
for about 3 and a half hours including getting lost. We watched
Home Alone
3 during our ride. We ate our lunch on the bus; and when we arrived at
Greenfield Village,
we got off of the bus and split up boys and girls. We saw:
Glass
blowing, a print shop, a mill, the
Wright
brother’s house and
cycle
shop, and lots more. We got to make small brass candle stick holders and
ride on a real
Model T (car).

At about 4:30 we left Greenfield Village to head to the hotel to get settled before going to Jerusalem Pizza for an awesome dinner of pizza, French fries, or onion rings. We again loaded the bus to head for Comerica Park (Detroit Tigers baseball stadium) where we saw the Cleveland Indians beat the Tigers 7-6. By the end of the game it was about 10:40. We loaded the bus again and started to sing; we sang the whole way back to the hotel. We got back to the hotel and were told to get ready for bed. Lights out was at 11:45.
The morning wake up call was at 6:30.
We had to be on the bus at 7:10 heading for Akiva school where we davened and
had a delicious breakfast and a short
halacha shiur.
We then loaded the busses to go to the
Henry Ford Museum.
The things that we saw at the
Henry Ford Museum
were amazing!
We got to see
the chair that
President Abe Lincoln was sitting in when he was assassinated,
the bus on which
Rosa Parks rode, and
the car in which
President Kennedy was assassinated. There was a really interesting
plane exhibit.
We got to “Wing Walk.” It was a lot of fun!
After we finished exploring the museum we sat on the grass outside and ate our deli sandwiches. We then got back on the bus to head back to Cleveland. We watched Shrek on the way home. Then we arrived at school to meet our parents and go home and get a good night’s sleep.
