let me explain....
When you read Kriat Shema, you need to have absolute Kavannah (concentration to do the mitzvah) just for the first line.
However, for the Amida, you need Kavannah the entire time you are davening.
Although you could have this concentration for one line while in a tree or on top of a brick building, you couldn't possibly concentrate during the entire Amida. You'd be afraid of falling!
QUESTION: Can you give me an
example of two other places where the Mishna might also say you are allowed to
read Shema but NOT daven the Amida?
