Chapter 1, Mishna 1
Part 1
Question: How are aydim (punished) as zom'e'min (plotting witnesses)?
We are now going to learn two exceptions to the usual rule (that we learned about in the introduction), where the plotting witnesses get the same punishment they wanted to give to their victims.
Case 1...
There is testimony that Mr. Ploni is the son of a divorced woman or of a woman who had Chalitza done. SO WHAT?? CLICK HERE!
The witnesses turn out to be zom'e'min. In this case, we do NOT say that the witness is made into the son of a divorced woman or of a woman who had Chalitza done. Instead, they get 40 makkot (lashes)!
WHY IS THIS AN EXCEPTION? CLICK HERE!
Case 2...
There is testimony that Mr. Ploni was required to go to galut (exile in a City of Refuge) and didn't go.
The witnesses turn out to be zom'e'min. In this case, we do NOT say they go to galut. Instead they get 40 makkot. WHY IS THIS AN EXCEPTION? CLICK HERE!
