MISHNA BRACHOT

Chapter 1, Mishna 2

The Mitzvah of Kriat Shema is to say Shema "when you lie down and when you get up."  We are now going to learn what time is considered to be "when you get up"!

Start saying the morning Shema when you can tell the difference between light blue and white.

I am Rabbi Eliezer.  I say that you can't start saying morning Shema until you can tell the difference between light blue and green.

Also, you have to finish saying the Shema by dawn.

Shalom!  I am Rabbi Yehoshua.  In the morning, you have until three hours to say the morning Shema.  CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT WHY.

If you don't say Shema by then, you haven't lost out.  You still MUST say Shema, and its b'rachot, when you daven Shacharit.  CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT WHY.
